Paints
We recommend white and fluorescent coloured fabric paints for best results on our aprons.
First check the cupboards. You may find fabric paint hiding from a previous project. If not we have some available which we know look great on our products.
For your convenience we now stock HYDROTEX fabric paints.
HYDROTEX fabric paints are a range of water-based products suitable for printing most natural and synthetic fabrics. They are Non Toxic and Solvent Free.
Hydrotex Standard Colours are formulated for use on light coloured fabrics and available in a range of vibrant colours. We recommend white from this range.
Hydrotex Fluorescent Colours are exceptionally bright shades achieved with fine fluorescent pigments that allow high strength colours without causing a stiff feel to the print.
Curing
Hydrotex products should be heat sealed for 3mins at 150 C.
Clean Up
All Hydrotex products are water-based and equipment is easily cleaned with water.
How many colours?
Even though white looks stunning by itself on the aprons, the children love to choose colours so we would usually recommend white plus at least two fluoro colours. For example white, orange and green look great on the navy. When more colours are available little artists appear and rainbows become very popular.
How much paint do I need?
As a guide, using handprints for 80-100aprons, you would need a minimum or 4x400ml tubs. (Freestyle painting will use more paint.)
Can we use Acrylic paints?
Acrylic paints can be used if mixed with a textile medium. However they must again be fluoro colours and we would recommend you test them ahead of time incase they should fade. Please call for a fabric sample.
Do I need to fix paint?
Yes Fabric paint must be heat sealed. Once completely dry, cover with a soft cloth and iron for 3mins on the cotton setting.
Please find attached an "ironing instructions stencil". Simply copy cut up and staple to the apron ties. This way the parents can take this responsibility.
